Solo Road Trip
by Tammie Dooley
1- a celebration of the adventurer in all of us; 2- discovery of the lost art of solitude; 3- to pry oneself from the easy chair and move one step out of our comfort zone; 4- traveling alone exploring the unknown for at least two nights away from home preferably via foot or a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
About SRT... I’m a traveler, writer and photographer for whom the open road frequently summons. Adventurous solo road trips are a staple for me, and a curiosity. So I created this website to share them and inspire you to step out and give them a try. Welcome!
A soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone – Wolfgang Von Goethe

Solo Road Trip on Facebook

I used to travel the roads of South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming and Kansas with my dad when i was young. It was pure joy. I moved very far away from there, over mountains, seas and borders … but your site has brought me back to them. Great writing and images … thanks for bringing me home again.

Hi Tammie,
my family and I are planning a trip to Yellowstone/Tetons this summer. We are looking for your recommendations regarding the best companies that offer horseback riding and whitewater rafting.
Thanks.

Hi Tammie, I stumble on your website at Blog Catalog, and I love your travel blog as well as your photography. I wish I could write like you. Anyway, I will link your blog to mine…

I stumbled upon your site quite on accident, but I am so pleased that this happened! Beautiful pictures, and I appreciate a good story teller
The B&W picture of the Badlands is just breathtaking.
Thank you for a couple hours entertainment, and for making me forget that I have a terrible cold. I am inspired to get some hiking boots, and to start planning my own little solo road trips. Hope to continue to see more from you!

Your brother, James, turned us on to your web site and my children and I have enjoyed it so much. My children especially have enjoyed checking out photos of places they are studying at school. We look forward to your future adventures.

Hi,
I came across your website via Facebook and it is amazing!!! My best friends and I are planning trip to Mt Rushmore than just wander around for a week. Would it be possible to provide the trip route you took for your Dakotas trip? I am intrigued and fascinated by your trip journal and would love to visit many of the places you write about. Any help you may offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I look forward to your future adventures.
Thank you so much.

You are living my ultimate dream! Your journey is one I strive to exploit! I will be in China and Korea this summer, photographing of course. I’m just a student at Utah State right now, but I’m curious as to how you got involved on this adventure. Feel free to write me back!

TD:
You totally rock. Your wonderful site and photography’s inspired me to get back to it.
At 48, I’ve been doing solo US and world travel adventures for 30+ years. I’m an avid scuba DiveMaster, alpiner, climber, mountain biker, kayaker, swimmer, runner, boogie boarder, writer, photographer (former), drinker, thinker and multi-lingual communicator. I’ve done extended wilderness and backcountry treks, vison quests, peyote ceremonies, sweat lodges and fire circles. And your site (found on my FaceBook page) has inspired me! Thanks to a tough few years of marital disharmony, my bolder activities have been on hold. But now that my divorce is almost done (no kids, ever, anywhere), I’m hittin’ the road! And hope to see you there, or at least do some trackin’ online.
May your skies be wide open, with the wind at your back. Thanks for kickin’ my spirit back out on the trails where it belongs.
Much granola,

Tammie,
I ran across your link on Facebook. I so much enjoyed looking at your photos of the Dakotas; I grew up in rural S.D. and am fascinated by your concept of roadtrip photography/journaling/research. Your photos are beautiful and have inspired me to explore my own backyard! Thanks!

Hi Tammie. Fellow solo traveller/photographer here. Some of your B and W shots look very much like Infrared Film? Ive shot a ton of this stuff and love it and only just learned that Kodak HIE is gone forever. So are you shooting film still and how are you getting that contrasty black and white infrared look?
Cheers
Brian

WOW.. I clicked on a link in Facebook and have only perused the front page, but I really like what I’m seeing.
Looks like you have travelled to some very interesting places and have a lot of fun in the process.
I am currently a Minnesota transplant, after 21 years in Miami, and I had to laugh at the Swedish style meal shot, as I can totally relate, being in a very Scandinavian environment right now.
Road trips are the best way to see the world. And food shots are great, especially when they are new types of foods.. and even when they’re not! I cannot wait to explore more on your site.

Hi dear Friend!
Hope you have a great trip to Badlands. I’m sure you will bring back great photos too. We spent last weekend in Southern Chile, and had a wonderful weekend. We went to thermal waters place and enjoyed the baths a lot!
Hope you enjoy a lot your trip and come back safely. We well be here to welcome you!

Your photos are amazing and love what I have read so far on your blog. I will be heading to Dalian, China soon to teach English for the next year. Did you happen to go there?

After reading your Valentine story, we dug out our box of Vosges exotic truffles and shared a Woolloomooloo and Glandula. We enjoyed the chocolate and “toasted” you as best we could do, clanging our truffles together.
We will look forward to the Teton adventure.
